Windows Explorer (File Manager)Shortcuts
Everyone uses the Ctrl C and Ctrl V to copy and paste in Word and Excel, but did you know you can also use the same keyboard shortcuts in File Manager or Windows Explorer?
To copy a file or a folder in File Manager, select a file or folder, press Ctrl C to copy the files and Ctrl V to paste files. This is useful when you want to copy some files or folders from one drive to another drive.
Ctrl X will Cut (delete from the original location) and Ctrl V will paste the files or folders to the new location.
To select only some files (or folders), hold the CTRL key as you select (single click) the files. To select all the files in one folder, use Ctrl A.
While in File Manager or Windows Explorer, you can click on column headings to sort files. You can sort on any of the columns. For example, you can click on the Date Modified heading to sort by the date of the file. Click the Date Modified heading again, and that will reverse the sort.
Bonus tip. You can use the Backspace key to navigate backwards through the folder you have just opened – like you can in Internet Explorer.
The documentation from Microsoft is a pretty good reference for using File Manager or Windows Explorer.

The site defaults to French text. That’s OK if you speak French, but there is a little UK flag on the top right of the web page to switch to English.
